The greatest asset, or liability, that a firefighter has is their attitude. Our attitude drives how we prepare, and how we prepare drives how we perform. Too many firefighters, and entire departments, have allowed complacency and poor attitudes to slip in to their heads and operations. The result has been inefficient operations that do not deliver what our citizens expect and deserve.

For those firefighters with the right mindset, the frustration of working with others who are “checked out” can be intensely frustrating and watching effects of poor performance on the fireground can be tragic and heartbreaking.

In the Combat Ready Firefighting program we will explore the sources and causes of this complacency and discuss what we can do about it. We will discuss how firefighters can recalibrate themselves as individuals, and how company officers and chiefs can build high-performing firefighting units and departments. We will discuss how to take yourself, and your company, to the next level - and how to inspire and lead others to do the same.
