Command post radio trick - sounding your own alert tone...

When in Command, it can be useful in multiple situations to broadcast an alert tone on the operations channel to get everyone’s attention. Evacuating the building, an urgent issue like a loss of water, a MAYDAY, etc... In some systems you can ask the communications center to broadcast the tone, or to broadcast the message itself. But this is not always possible, or reliable.

I am NOT the radio expert - but I was shown this capability of of our radios. Holding down the transmit button and depressing the emergency button transmits an alert tone for as long as the PTT is held. This works on our 800 trucked channels and on conventional/simplex channels. This also works on our APX portable radios.
